Orange deficit
1 Apr 2004

Fruit juice maker Berri will be forced to import squeezed oranges for the first time ever this year, due to a severe domestic shortage. Berri is Australia's largest fresh fruit juice manufacturer and controls about 50 per cent of the domestic market.

The local orange shortage is due to the drought, hail, cyclical crop problems and irrigation issues. The imported juice will be bought from Brazil.
