SPC Ardmona gets fingers into jam
13 May 2004

SPC Ardmona has purchased Australia's largest fruit spreads and fruit snacks manufacturer, Henry Jones IXL, from US-based JM Smucker Company for $51 million. The US company has owned Henry Jones IXL for 15 years, with the brand now the leading local maker of fruit spreads, followed by Cadbury Schweppes' Monbulk and Cottee's labels.

SPC Ardmona's MD Nigel Garrard said some staff - "in their teens" - will be laid off as a result of the acquisition. The Henry Jones IXL factory is at Kyabram, about 30 kilometres from SPC Ardmona's Shepparton and Mooroopna plants. The company makes IXL and Allowrie fruit conserves and spreads, as well as fruit bars and the Taylor's marinade range.

The Age, 13/5/04.
