Fruit and veg farmers intimidated

Some fruit and vegetable wholesalers are allegedly intimidating horticulture farmers over a planned code of conduct aimed to bring transparency to the industry. The Horticulture Australia Council said some wholesalers were trying to have farmers fill out survey forms that criticised the new code. The government introduced the horticulture business code earlier this year, following pressure from farmers who want protection for small producers who feel they are being squeezed by large wholesalers and retailers.
