Orchardists qualify for soft loans
13 Jan 2005

Seventy orchardists and vineyard owners whose crops were affected by hailstorms in December will be eligible for natural disaster assistance from the New South Wales government. The storms caused an estimated $20 million damage on around 1,000 hectares of farmland in the state's central west on December 8. Primary producers can apply for loans of up to $130,000 at three per cent interest, with a two-year interest and repayment-free period, to provide working capital to help replace or repair property and infrastructure damaged by the storm. The storms affected pome fruit, stone fruit and vineyards around the Borenore, Cadia, Mt Canobolas, Nashdale, Cargo and Spring Hill areas. Hail damaged 80 per cent of fruit in some orchards.
