Crisp start to apple and pear season
18 Mar 2005

Apple and Pear Australia said the industry was making a strong recovery from the drought. The marketing agency for the sector said orchardists were looking to a reversal of last season’s 20 per cent decline in production. APA said the good crop was brought on by excellent weather, particularly in January and February, despite severe hail damage in some areas. In 2004, growers produced almost 255,000 tonnes of apples and about 140,000 tonnes of pears.
