Emerald orchardists seek compensation 11 Jul 2005
Orchardists in the Emerald citrus growing region of central Queensland want the federal government to pay growers $97 for each tree destroyed and $20 a year for each tree until orchards were re-established and back in production. Arguments over compensation between growers and the government have become drawn out. A community liaison group set up in Emerald to work through issues surrounding the destruction of citrus trees in the region has been disbanded, pending a resolution of the compensation issue.
