Clean and green image more like a mirage

Australia’s farmers may think their food is clean and green, but so is food grown almost anywhere else in the world. It is an act of faith among Australian farmers and state development agencies that local agriculture is modern and efficient. Yet exports of many agricultural commodities are in decline. In labour intensive food segments Australian farmers will never compete against farmers in China and South Africa.
