Citrus growers cranky over canker compo
30 Aug 2005

A citrus “rescue package” aimed at stamping out exotic citrus canker disease appears unlikely to secure agreement from sufficient stakeholders. Fitzroy Basin Food and Fibre, an agribusiness lobby group in central Queensland, said government agencies wanted to begin the final destruction of around 100,000 healthy citrus trees in mid September, but said farmers would not allow that until an agreement was reached on compensation.
