Banana growers asked to vote on national levy

The Australian Banana Growers Council will conduct a ballot of 1900 growers on the proposal for a levy to fund national promotion, research and plant protection programs. The council proposal is for an ad valorem levy to be set at 1.2 per cent of the first point of sale price on all banana varieties. NSW and Western Australia have compulsory levies. Queensland dropped its compulsory levy in 2003.
