Melon growers reject R&D levy

Melon growers have voted against a proposal to introduce a statutory levy to fund promotion, research and development. The Australian Melon Association said the negative vote meant that any future research and development or promotional activities would need to be funded by voluntary contributions collected from the industry by some alternative means to a compulsory levy.
