Dangerous goods licence required to cart farm chemicals
29 Sep 2005

Farmers transporting more than 500 litres of herbicide will have to gain a dangerous goods licence and $10 million of public liability insurance under a draft code drawn up by the National Transport Commission. The commission says it has broadened the definition of dangerous goods to include herbicides that are toxic to aquatic life, to comply with United Nations standards. The code would mean farmers and the chemical industry would classify an extra 80 million litres each year of agricultural and veterinary chemicals as dangerous goods.
