GM pea trial abandoned

CSIRO will destroy its experimental genetically modified pea crop after mice that ate the peas suffered adverse reactions and their lung tissue became inflamed. The decade long project aimed to modify peas to resist attack by the pea weevil and fungus. Pea weevils can cause yield losses of up to 30per cent a year. Anti-GM campaigners welcomed the decision.
