Apples and pears left to rot 29 Nov 2005
Orchardists may dump up to 12,000 tonnes of juicing apples next season because of cheap imports. Western Australian processor Harvey Fresh had stopped buying juicing pears after it could not shift a backlog of concentrate in cold storage, prompting orchardists to dump 1800 tonnes of juicing pears. Another 4000 tonnes may be dumped in February, while apple growers may also fail to find a market.
