Bananas to hit $9 within two weeks
23 Mar 2006

Banana sellers are hoarding their produce as prices begin to rise after Cyclone Larry destroyed 80 per cent of the Australian banana crop on Monday morning. Wholesale prices began to rise on Monday and continued to $50/carton yesterday. In the next week or two prices for bananas are expected to reach $100/carton which would mean retail prices of $9/kilo. Woolworths is currently keeping prices at $3.88/kg but many independent retailers are selling for $5.99/kg.
