Banana import ban to stay 23 Mar 2006
The federal government will not ease its ban on imported bananas despite Cyclone Larry decimating the Australian crop. Agriculture Minister Peter McGauran said despite the looming shortages, biosecurity and quarantine safeguards would remain in place. He said an application by the Phillipines to sell bananas to the Australian market would be assessed in the normal process.
