Banana supply may run out at the end of the week
27 Mar 2006

Coles and Woolworths said supplies would run out in days, after cyclone Larry wiped out 90 per cent of Australia’s banana crop. Retail prices are approaching $6 a kilogram, though many supermarkets were still selling bananas at $5/kg over the weekend. Coles said it was still trying to get an accurate assessment of the damage from suppliers, but said it did not expect supplies to last beyond the end of the week. Australians consume 15 million bananas a week.
