Banana prices on the rise
30 Mar 2006

Ten days after Cyclone Larry, retail banana prices are edging up toward nine dollars a kilo. Coles said it was retailing bananas for between $4.98 and $5.98 / kilo. Woolworths said its retail price was up to $.98 / kilo from $3.90 last week. The ABC reported one supermarket selling bananas for $8.80 / kilo. The National Association of Retail Grocers said bananas were still coming in from southern Queensland, northern NSW, the NT and WA but that up to 80 per cent of supply has dried up. Avocado prices are also expected to rise.
