Government assistance for farmers falls
7 Apr 2006

Overall government assistance to the grain, sheep and beef cattle industries has fallen almost $300 million over the last two years to $356.6 million said the productivity Commission. Assistance to the dairy industry dropped $35 million to $50.3 million and fruit growers lost more than $20 million in the two years to 2004-05. Assistance to food, drink and tobacco companies was up from $28.4 million to $109 million. Tax concessions, funding for Research and Development and drought related assistance were included in the figures.
