Banana shortage has bottomed out
13 Jul 2006

Growers groups say the banana shortage has bottomed out and prices should begin to fall. Prices in Canberra hit $16.90/Kg last week and nationally have been averaging in the $12 – $15 range. The growers’ council is encouraging banana growers to stagger crop replanting to avoid a glut and second shortage next year. The group said more growers went broke in the glut 12 months after Cyclone Winifred in 1986 than as a result of the cyclone itself.
