Kiwi apple ban remains 18 Aug 2006
Apple growers in New Zealand expect Biosecurity Australia will contiue to deny access to kiwi apples. New Zealand is likely to take Australia to the World Trade Organisation. Australia has refused to accept Kiwi apples for 85 years because it says they could bring in the fire blight disease. The first draft of the import risk analysis said New Zealand apples could be allowed into Australia but under stringent conditions.
