Growers cranky over voluntary code
12 Sep 2006

The federal government has dropped plans for a mandatory code of conduct to govern relations between horticulturists and buyers. The government now proposes a voluntary code. The National Farmers Federation said it wanted contractual clarity for growers, a requirement for wholesalers to identify themselves as agents or merchants and a workable dispute resolution process. The Central Markets Association of Australia, which represents fruit and vegetable merchants, welcomed the plan.
