Banana shipments increase 50 per cent in a week
21 Nov 2006

The Australian Banana Growers Council said that, depending on size and quality, wholesale prices were between $5.30 and $7.70 a kilogram. Queensland's banana harvest increased by about 40-50 per cent last week to 160,000 cartons. Coles and Woolworths are now selling bananas at low profit margins to revive consumer demand after the high prices of 2006.
