Wholesalers seek to bypass code
20 Dec 2006

Fruit and vegetable wholesalers sent letters to growers urging them to sign contracts that avoid adhering to "complicated written agreements and expensive administration". The offer may be an attempt to lock growers into contracts that thwart the new code on fair trading. The code, which came into effect on Friday, demands that wholesalers clearly state on any long-term contract whether they are acting as agents or merchants.
