SA storm costs $5 million in fruit losses 8 Jan 2007
A storm in South Australia’ Riverland region on the weekend has caused fruit crop losses estimated at $5 million. Heavy rain and 90km/h winds destroyed 80ha of apricots, 80ha of grapes and 40ha of apples and pears. Around 50 homes in Renmark were also damaged. Scott Turner, State Emergency Service regional commander, said the loss to the state’s agriculture was substantial and State Government reparations would be required.
