Drought will continue to increase food prices
11 Jan 2007

Australian grocery prices are going to continue rising due to the drought. Mike Badcock, Ausveg chairman, says that due to a severe shortage vegetable prices could soon be double what they were a year ago and would stay that way for most of 2007. "All the leafy vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and the Asian vegetables are already affected and supplies of potatoes and carrots are becoming restricted," he said. Food research analysts have noted that while the drought is responsible for reduced supply, other factors like the increased cost of petrol have increased the cost of transport.
