Drought ends family’s historic apple orchards
14 Mar 2007

The Chapman family has grown apples at Silvan in the Yarra Valley since 1892, but due to prolonged drought and commercial pressures on farming close to the urban fringe, they have decided to destroy their apple orchards. The family is now concentrating on less water-reliant crops, such as cherries, blueberries, raspberries and lemons.
