Methomyl off the banned list
19 Apr 2007

Methomyl, a pesticide used by vegetable growers to control pests in field crops, has been taken off the banned list for chemicals after it was originally added late last year. The Australia Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority had banned the chemical for use on glasshouse crops and on lettuce and other leafy vegetables grown in the field. Methomyl also goes under the trade names Electra, Lannate, Marlin and Nudrin. An APVMA spokesman said the decision was based on evidence that even following the label instructions may result in methomyl residues on the produce exceeding maximum residue limits.
