Tasmania fruit fly identified
9 May 2007

The live fruit fly larvae that sparked a biosecurity alert in Tasmania has been identified as Queensland fruit fly. It was in an infected guava that originally came from Queensland and was imported into the state last week via the Sydney Markets. A spokesperson from the Department of Primary Industries and Water said that no other larvae had been found. A report into the incident is being finalised and legal advice is being sought as to what steps will be taken next.
