New water planning committee
28 May 2007

The federal government has set up a committee to look at contingency planning for domestic water supplies and will probably look at assistance for irrigators. NSW Irrigators Council chief executive, Doug Miell said "There could be people suffering for five to six years if their orchards die and they are not currently catered for under existing exceptional circumstance support." Drought relief payments currently total $17 million a week and may total $900 million in the next financial year.
