Water bank to outbid government
18 Jun 2007

Murray Irrigation, the largest Murray River irrigation company, is planning to establish a 'water bank' where it would outbid the government for water that farmers want to sell and then lend the water back to the farmers to ensure that it did not leave the district. The chairman of Murray Irrigation, Stuart Ellis, said that a water bank "may antagonise some within the government, but as a business we have got to try to look at keeping as much water here as we can."
