Still no water, even after rain
21 Jun 2007

While areas of the country have been flooded with heavy rainfalls over the past two weeks, the news is not so good for those relying on the Murray Darling system. The federal government yesterday warned that irrigators faced having their allocations cut to zero so would have to consider carting water supplies. While water storage in Sydney has risen to 50 per cent, the Murray Darling is at a new record low of 10 per cent. Although there has been some rainfall in the area it has not been sufficient to reduce the soil moisture deficits in the upper Murray catchments.
