Rain gives hope for irrigators
25 Jul 2007

Winter rains may be a lifeline for farmers in South Australia with news that irrigators will be allowed to draw 13 per cent of their allocation in August instead of the 4 per cent that was available in July. Water ministers in Victoria and New South Wales have warned that, for the time being, irrigators in their states will still have zero allocation although this may be reviewed. Rain across the catchment area for the Murray-Darling during June and July has soaked the ground which has increased the chance of higher inflows in the next few months.
