Irrigators angry over water retention
19 Sep 2007

Victorian farmers and Sunraysia irrigators are angry at a proposal to hold back some water from irrigation use this year, to be held in reserve for South Australia to use next year. It is believed that the proposal is contained in the September Murray Darling Basin Dry Inflow Contingency Planning Overview Report which is expected to be released soon. The chairman of the Sunraysia District Irrigators Council, Danny Lee, said "No one can guarantee that it will rain this year, or next year, so there's going to be no water in the river anyway. If they push ahead I would lead the charge to put a dirt bank across the river on the border and lead the army to protect it."
