Drought funding to be easier to get
24 Sep 2007

The assets and income test for farmers applying for exceptional circumstances drought relief will be eased in a rural rescue package to be finalised by cabinet tomorrow. The package is expected to include help for irrigators and horticulturalists who are facing the loss of their vineyards and orchards. Nationals MP John Forrest has called for an increase to the $75,000 exit grants and said that irrigators should not have to pay tax on the sale of water rights.
