Drought pushing prices higher for all
25 Oct 2007

The drought is driving up prices for both consumers and producers. The price of vegetables has shot up by 7.9 per cent in the September quarter and 21.5 per cent over the last year and the price of fruit was up 8.8 per cent for the quarter. Increasing grain prices are flowing through to many products with the price of bread up 5.5 per cent for the year and 2.1 per cent in the quarter with meat and eggs expected to follow. According to the Australian Chicken Meat Federation we should be prepared to pay 20 to 30 per cent more for chickens from mid-November.
