Rain comes at the wrong time in SA
26 Oct 2007

A 2,000 hectare area with crops due to be harvested has been wiped out by a hailstorm near Port Broughton in Adelaide. The storm destroyed 90 per cent of the Hewett family's crop of wheat, lupin, barley and peas but the hail seemed to stop before it hit the next property. Heavy falls have been recorded in parts of South Australia over recent days with more expected over the next few days. Farmers who have crops almost ready to harvest are hoping that there is there is not too much rain as it could potentially destroy their crops. SA Farmer's Federation president Wayne Cornish said that the grain harvest was progressing very slowly with only a few in the west coast and northern areas delivering grain so far.
