Foodland bans GM products
25 Jan 2008

The Foodland supermarket chain has said that its stores will not stock products that use genetically modified ingredients and has called for clear labelling of such food. Chief executive Russell Markham reassured customers that GM products would not be used in their Foodland branded products and that consumers must be given the right to decide whether or not they consume GM food. However Professor Mark Tester from the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics labelled the announcement as populist and that any claim to offer GM-free products was "untenable". Foodland operates 109 stores across South Australia, Northern Territory and NSW.
