Great year for pears
1 May 2008

The pear harvest for this year has been completed with the quality described as excellent. Apple and Pear Australia Limited said that a large Packham crop had been produced with brilliant quality while the volume of Williams pears was down but the quality still very good. Packham and Williams pears make up about 70 per cent of the domestic production with Buerre Bosc contributing another 20 per cent. Most pears are produced in the Goulburn region which has had generally good conditions.
