Insurers count bushfire cost
4 Jan 2002

The cost of the NSW bushfire crisis was revised upwards by $20 million yesterday, taking the total insurance industry damage bill to $70 million. National coordinator of Insurance Disaster Response Organisation, Mr Christopher Henri, said the insured losses from the fires now significantly exceeds the $56 million recorded for the NSW bushfires in 1994.

The NSW Government said two more helicopter water tankers will be arriving in the next couple of days to help with the fire fighting effort as blazes continue out of control.

'Bushfire cost rises to $70m', The Australian Financial Review, 04/01/02, p5.
