MBF to drop electronic health insurance discount 21 May 2002
One of Australia's largest health insurers, MBF, intends to abandon the 4 per cent discount currently offered for premiums that are paid electronically via direct debits, credit cards and payroll deductions. The move comes on top of a 3.4 per cent premium increase last month. In addition, MBF has applied to the Health Department to make other changes, and these have been approved: a reduction in benefits for ancillary services, and the introduction of excesses for one-day hospital procedures.
The Federal Government said it is "disappointed" over MBF's decision to drop its electronic payment discount, however a spokesman for the Health Minister said that the changes were a "business decision" by the fund and had been approved by the Health Department.
