OJD control method 'flawed'
17 Jun 2003

A farming couple from York in Western Australia say they believe the spread of Ovine Johne's Disease cannot be controlled until an efficient diagnostic technique is developed.

John Ryan, who has experienced the devastation of OJD, says until there's a good diagnostic method, Western Australia can't say it's free of the disease, whether its borders are closed or otherwise.

The issue has become prominent over recent months and calls have been made to close WA's borders. OJD was confirmed in a goat on a property at Geraldton.

Countryman, 12/6/03.
