$10,000 reward for stolen cattle 25 Jun 2003
A $10,000 reward is being offered in a bid to solve Victoria's largest-ever cattle-duffing case. On or around June 7, 116 rare Bazadaise cattle were stolen from a property at Katunga, north of Shepparton. The cattle were worth between $600,000 and $1 million.
The herd's owners have offered the reward in a bid to get the cattle returned as soon as possible. Kinarra Cattle Company consultant Helen Fleming said she's concerned for the welfare of the animals, as some are due for calving in a few weeks' time. Mrs Fleming queried whether the cattle are in the hands of people who know how to handle them. She also said the herd may have been split up, to avoid detection.
In dollar terms, the theft was Victoria's largest-ever single case of livestock theft recorded. The Katunga herd was Australia's biggest single group of Bazadaise cattle.
