Cattle duffing crackdown in Nth Qld 24 Jul 2003
North Queensland police are calling for cattle owners to report cattle duffing, or information on suspected duffing, following the charging last week of three people for the offence. Two men and a woman were charged with four offences relating to cattle theft. They are expected to appear in Bowen Magistrates' Court in August.
Rockhampton and Charters Towers stock squads had earlier found 120 head of suspect stock. Over 60 head of Brahman cross cattle were seized from the Gracemere saleyards after they were found to have brand and registered earmark irregularities. More cattle were seized from a West Euri Road property and another property east of Mount Aberdeen.
Longreach police are also investigating the likely theft of almost 300 agisted Belmont Red cows from near Jericho. The herd was discovered missing after the June muster.
North Queensland Register, 24/7/03.
