WA Merino breeders want more sampling accuracy 9 Sep 2003
The Stud Merino Breeders Association of Western Australia says fleece measurement tests should be standardised so that buyers get more accurate information when they're buying rams.
The association has recommended that stud breeders take mid-side samples in Spring instead of Autumn, using the recommended industry sampling standards. This way, prospective buyers at annual ram sales get information that is as up-to-date and accurate as possible.
In other sheep industry news, a Poll Merino ram from the Ashrose stud of Tintinara in South Australia received the Rabobank Wesfarmers Landmark Australian Supreme Merino Ram for 2003 on August 27. The prize was awarded at the Rabobank National Merino sheep show and sale at Dubbo in New South Wales, where all six Merino states took part in the finals.
