Sheep to get export nod
4 Dec 2003

More than 70,000 sheep stranded at Portland in Victoria for the last two weeks due to animal activist sabotage are likely to get the go-ahead for export to Kuwait this week. It's believed the crisis has been resolved, with the Kuwaiti Government supplying written guarantees that the sheep would be accepted at their destination.

The Australian Government has pledged that the sheep in the "contaminated" paddock, where shredded ham was put into feed by Animal Liberation, will not be exported. All the sheep barring the 1,800 in that paddock will be shipped.

The sheep have been cleared for any health issues. The Kuwaiti Government's religious ethics committee said sheep which eat animal feed are fit for consumption by Muslims after three days.

Weekly Times, 3/12/03, page 7.
