NSW piggeries quarantined 16 Feb 2004
The NSW Department of Agriculture has confirmed the quarantine of two piggeries with newborn piglets suffering from porcine myocarditis (PMC). The infectious disease was first identified in June last year and has been limited to two piggeries, both owned by the same company. The properties are under strict protocols. They're believed to be in Corowa, close to the Victorian border.
Australian Pork Ltd was unavailable for comment about any potential impact on the industry.
The department issued a statement which said the PMC is "already resolving itself", with piglet losses now below industry averages. There has been no evidence of PMC in piglets over five weeks of age.
