Live trade under debate
29 Mar 2004

Federal Cabinet will examine the recommendations of the Keniry report on last year's Cormo Express sheep debacle this week, and is expected to consider the future of the live animal export trade. There was further negative publicity last night, when a TV program aired on the subject of animal welfare in the live trade.

The Keniry report recommended that the industry comply with a national animal welfare code, that a holding facility be set up in the Middle East for rejected animals, that independent vets travel on long voyages, and that the Portland and Adelaide live export ports be closed during the Middle Eastern Summer.

Australian Financial Review, 29/3/04.
