Five Qld shires off drought list
7 Apr 2004

Five shires in Queensland's south-east have been taken off the state's drought list. Local committees recommended that drought declarations be revoked for Chinchilla and Tara on the Darling Downs, Eidsvold, Monto and Mundubbera in the Burnett region. Another 82 shires and four part-shires are still drought-declared.

Primary Industries Minister Henry Palaszczuk said farmers in the areas taken off the drought list still have access to assistance. Under the Drought Relief Assistance Scheme, they are eligible for freight subsidies for the next two years to restock their properties. Freight subsidies are also available for the next 12 months for stock returning from agistment.
