Review over pig meat imports
21 Apr 2004

Australian Pork Ltd's appeal against the decision to relax quarantine bans on imported pig meat has gained a hearing. The appeal will allow a review of Biosecurity Australia's decision, APL CEO John Cook said.

Mr Cook said the appeal referral confirms the seriousness of the pork industry's concerns over BA's pig meat import risk analysis, which APL believes to be "fundamentally flawed".

The pork industry's appeal has been referred by the Quarantine Export Advisory Council to a formal appeal panel, which should provide a result by next month.
