Charges to follow sheep ship protest
23 Apr 2004

Two animal rights activists are expected to be charged with trespass after chaining themselves to a tugboat to prevent a live export ship docking at Portland Harbour. Animal Liberation's Mark Pearson said the two people were trying to stop the tugboat from guiding the Al Messilah into the port, where it was due to load around 80,000 sheep.

A group of about 45 animal liberationists were unsuccessful in their attempt to stop the ship docking.

Between 70,000 and 80,000 live sheep are expected to be loaded onto the Al Messilah, bound for the Middle East.
